The Theodoxus dalmaticus "Balkan Limpet" is a small snail from southeastern Europe that, unlike most other members of its genus, can reproduce in freshwater. The color of the shell varies from beige to reddish and is decorated with a characteristic striped pattern. At 1.5 cm in size, it remains relatively small and is therefore also increasingly found in nanoaquariums.
Size of sale: This species of snail remains very small, so the animals sold are only 0.3-5 cm in size. They are German bred and have no import damage.
General information on keeping and breeding: This species of snail can usually be kept with all aquarium inhabitants that do not have snails on their diet (such as puffer fish). A temperature of 12 - 23 °C is optimal; this species of snail does not like it any warmer in the long term. The diet mainly consists of biofilm and algae growth on surfaces in the aquarium; plants are of no interest to this snail. The animals are separate sexes, but it is not possible to distinguish the sex from the outside. The females of this species of snail lay their tiny, whitish to beige egg cocoons on solid surfaces. These egg cocoons contain only a small number of offspring, which feed on the nutrient eggs provided inside the cocoons. The development time until the young snails hatch is around 30 to 60 days and this works in freshwater.
