Sulcospira testudinaria "Black Panther"

The Sulcospira testudinaria "Black Panther" , also known as the Black Panther spire snail, is a fascinating freshwater snail from Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its dark-colored shell with black stripes and is similar in body structure and behavior to the genus Tylomelania.

Its biological advantages are obvious: like most rook snails, the Black Panther burrows into the soil, ensuring that no areas of decay develop. At the same time, the snail's excretions are an ideal fertilizer for the roots of other aquatic plants.

General information on keeping and breeding: This species of snail can generally be kept with all aquarium inhabitants that do not have snails on their menu (such as puffer fish). 20 - 28 °C is optimal. Although it digs through the bottom of the tank, it leaves the roots and leaves of the plants alone. There is no need to worry about mass reproduction like with other species of snails. The animals are dioecious, a female animal gives birth to about one more young animal per month. Some specimens can reach a size of up to 6 cm.
