The Melanoides/Tarebia granifera is a species of snail from the Indo-Pacific region, which is commonly known as the knobbed turret snail or "Nöppi". Interestingly, these snails vary greatly in their color, although our offspring have a very beautiful pattern with a brown head and a light tip. They are particularly beginner-friendly.

Its biological advantages are obvious and we use them especially when setting up new tanks: this small ramshorn snail burrows into the soil and ensures that no areas of rot develop. At the same time, the snail's excretions are ideal fertilizer for the roots of other aquatic plants.

Sale size: Sale animals have a minimum size of 0.7 cm without any damage to the shell.

General information on keeping and breeding: This type of snail can generally be kept with all aquarium inhabitants that do not have snails on their menu (such as puffer fish). Because it is so undemanding, it can be kept at temperatures of 18 - 30 °C. It digs through the bottom of the tank, but leaves the roots and leaves of the plants alone. As these animals are hermaphrodites, they reproduce more or less on their own. In order to avoid overpopulation, it is therefore advisable not to feed the animals specifically; the excretions of other aquarium inhabitants or algae growth are sufficient for this in established tanks. Some specimens reach a size of over 2 cm.
