Our DIY Neocaridina OE "Demon" breeding groups
We are proud to be able to offer you the Neocaridina with orange eyes that we have bred on www.shrimpify.eu . Since some of these lines are still quite young compared to other Neocaridina strains, we are currently unable to meet the demand for high- quality animals. Some people are dissatisfied with the associated prices, which are admittedly unusually high for Neocaridina. We would therefore like to present you with an alternative with which you can easily breed Neocaridina orange eyes in high- quality, spend far less money and have fun crossing them at the same time. Of course, we will provide instructions so that you have the best chance of success.
What do you need?
- 1x DIY breeding group
- If possible, 2 small aquariums (alternatively, one will work)
- A pinch of patience (more precisely 2 generation cycles)
- Passion to Breed - Anyone can keep shrimp (well, almost 😉), but crossing your own strain is something special
How do I proceed :
The necessary steps are listed using the example of a Blue Dream OE "Blue Demon" breeding group, but can be applied to all color varieties.
Step 1: It's incredibly simple - start the DIY breeding group in a tank and wait.
Tip: A small 12 – 25 L tank is sufficient and makes it easier for you to keep track of things.
Step 2: With a little patience, after a few weeks you will have young animals from the first generation (F1). These will have 100% black eyes, but will carry the genetics of orange eyes. The body coloring of the F1 generation varies between black-blue (of the male parents) and the perfect blue (of the female mothers).
Step 3: Wait and watch how your offspring (F1) grows and thrives. As soon as you can determine the sex of the animals, you can continue: From the F1 generation, you select the most beautifully colored females. You place these in a separate tank. Then come the males: Here you can choose a) the male OE parents, or b) perfectly colored F1 males (siblings). The difference between options a) and b) lies in the probability that OE animals will be born in the next generation: with option a) (mating: F1 female x male OE animal) you will receive 50% OE offspring in the F2 generation, with option b) (mating F1 female x F1 male) you will only receive 25% OE animals in the F2 offspring.
Tip: If you don't have a second tank, you can simply leave the F1 animals next to each other and you will still get animals with orange eyes in the offspring of the next (F2) generation. However, I recommend selecting the F1 generation particularly strictly in terms of color so that the body color of the F2 is nice and strong.
Step 4: If you have arrived here, you have basically already done it! You select the animals from the F2 generation with orange eyes that you want to continue working with and thus form a pure OE/Demon strain with 1A coloring. In the following generations, 100% orange eyes will appear 😊. Congratulations, your own strain in perfect quality has been crossed!
